AI essay grader pricing: from a free plan to a district contract

A teacher who wants an AI essay grader usually asks the same question first: what will it cost for my class load? EssayGrader (essaygrader.ai), a rubric-based AI essay grading platform for K-12 and higher-education teachers, publishes three self-serve plans and a custom district plan. The figures below were read from the EssayGrader pricing page in October 2026. Prices change, so confirm them on the page before you commit.

The three self-serve plans at a glance

EssayGrader self-serve plans: monthly price, essays per month and word limit per essay, checked October 2026
PlanPriceEssays per monthWord limit per essay
BasicFree1001,000
Pro$14.99 per month3503,500
Premium$34.99 per month8008,000

The pricing page has a toggle for annual billing, with savings of up to 30%. It lists the quota and the word limit separately, so a teacher needs to check both. A class set of 30 essays uses 30 of the monthly quota, and a single 4,000-word research paper needs a plan whose limit is above 4,000.

What the free Basic plan includes

Basic costs nothing and grades 100 essays a month. Each essay is scored against a rubric, either one from the rubric library or one the teacher uploads. Teachers get writing and grammar reports with the scores. Basic also lists native connections to Google Classroom, Canvas and Schoology, and file import from Google Drive, Dropbox and Box.

The pricing page states that EssayGrader is FERPA, COPPA and CCPA compliant and lists NIST SP 800-53 and HECVAT alignment on the Basic card, so the privacy position does not change with the plan.

What Pro adds

Pro is built for K-12 teachers who grade full class stacks every month. It raises the quota to 350 essays and the word limit to 3,500. It adds AI-writing detection and plagiarism detection for those 350 essays, a library of 800+ aligned rubrics that covers all 50 U.S. state standards, AP and IB, and a citation and reference check that supports MLA, APA and Harvard. Pro also lists the Writing Intelligence Layer, which tracks student writing growth across assignments and classes, grading of oral exams and video submissions, and instant chat support.

What Premium adds

Premium is aimed at higher-education instructors who grade long paper stacks. It lifts the quota to 800 essays and the word limit to 8,000, runs AI-writing and plagiarism detection automatically across those 800, and adds chat support that includes weekends. Everything in Pro is included.

How to choose a plan

  1. Count the essays you grade in your busiest month. If it is under 100 and each essay is under 1,000 words, Basic covers it.
  2. Check the longest piece of student writing you assign. A research paper or a college essay may need Pro or Premium for the word limit alone.
  3. Decide whether you need detection, citation checks or growth tracking. Those start on Pro.
  4. If a department or school will adopt it together, ask for the district quote, because licenses can be mixed.

Whatever the plan, the teacher reviews every score and comment before a student sees it, so a lower plan does not mean less control over grades.
